Kerry ten Kate, Direc­tor of For­est Trends’ Bio­di­ver­sity Ini­tia­tive, was recently invited to give a TEDx Talk at the Uni­ver­sity of Stir­ling. In her talk, she addresses the appar­ent con­flict between devel­op­ing a healthy and sta­ble econ­omy on the one hand and the preser­va­tion of our nat­ural resources on the other hand. Intro­duc­ing the con­cept of the mit­i­ga­tion hier­ar­chy and plan­ning for a “Net Pos­i­tive Impact on bio­di­ver­sity” ten Kate presents a prac­ti­cal approach for rec­on­cil­ing envi­ron­ment and development.
